Glacier National Park (Whitefish), Montana

Whitefish is one of the most scenic and breathtaking areas in America. Surrounded on three sides by picturesque mountain peaks, this alpine village offers amazing outdoor recreation opportunities. In winter, the main draw is Whitefish Mountain Resort, were you can ski or ride nearly 3,000 acres of uncrowded terrain and enjoy lightning-fast rides on the six-seater chairlift, the Snow Ghost Express. Whitefish Mountain Resort offers endless entertainment for riders of all skill levels and SKI Magazine's 2023 Resort Guide has named Whitefish Mountain Resort No. 6 overall in their "Top 30 Ski Resorts in the West" issue and #1 in Value as voted by the readers! If you’re new to skiing or snowboarding, this is a great place to take lessons and intermediate and advanced skiers will find the perfect runs to to hone their skills. Snow lovers will find a variety of activities in this region - from Fat Tire Biking and back county CAT skiing, to dog sledding and horse drawn sleigh rides.

If that's not enough, just a short drive away you’ll find the real treasure of this area - Glacier National Park’s pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains, and spectacular lakes. Open year round* on a limited basis, Glacier National Park's winter recreation opportunities are diverse, with trails perfect for adventures like Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and wildlife watching. Guides are available to hire for all skill levels and tours are a great idea for those who'd like to explore with the assistance of someone who's familiar with different aspects of the park. While you're out on the trails, you're likely to spot some majestic wildlife, such as white-tailed deer, moose and elk. Numerous species of birds and the occasional beaver can be spotted as well.

When it's time to return to town, you'll find that Whitefish has retrained the warm, friendly charm of its bygone railroading days. With its covered sidewalk main street leading to the cultural arts center, historic depot museum, and public library, this quaint, picturesque western town offers visitors a change from the fast-paced hustle and bustle of urban life. Getting around Whitefish and Whitefish Mountain Resort is easy in the winter with S.N.O.W. bus service. Central Avenue is filled with a variety of quality restaurants, shopping, and night life. In addition, surrounding communities offer their fair share of unique dining, shopping, museums, art galleries, gaming, and more just waiting to be explored.

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK ENTRY FEES: 7-day entrance permit winter rates are approximately $25 per private vehicle or $15 for each visitor entering by foot, ski, etc. Be aware that most of Glacier National Park's roads are closed during the winter and winter services in the park are extremely limited. The Going-to-the-Sun Road from West Glacier to Lake McDonald Lodge is typically open year-round, weather permitting. Remember to plan ahead, travel and recreate responsibly and leave no trace. Be aware that cell service is limited or nonexistent in the park. The Lodge at Whitefish Lake

The Lodge at Whitefish Lake is located just 10 minutes away from Whitefish Mountain Resort via free shuttles, minutes from downtown galleries and shops of Whitefish and less than a 30-minute drive to the scenic wonders of Glacier National Park. The Lodge offers all the amenities of a full-service resort including complimentary valet parking, heated pools and relaxing hot tubs, lakefront saunas, a private beach, full service spa, fitness center, boutique shopping, and much more. Weather permitting, ice fishing is available daily on beautiful Whitefish Lake overlooking the Whitefish Mountain Range where you can fish with experienced guides in the comfort of spacious, heated, fishing shanties. The Lodge at Whitefish Lake offer guests dining experiences ranging from the lakefront dining room for breakfast and dinner, the bar for lunch and casual dinner, and the Coffee Dock Cafe for grab & go items. Both Viking Creek Rooms and Lodge Studio Suites feature one king or two queen beds (based on hotel availability), soaking tub and walk-in shower, complimentary high-speed Internet access, fireplace, safe, coffee maker, mini-fridge, microwave, hairdryer, and iron/board and more.

The Lodge at Whitefish Lake is located approximately 20 minutes from Glacier Park International Airport (FCA) (15 minutes). Other gateway cities are Missoula, MT (MSO) 132 miles; Spokane, WA (GEG) 261 miles; Calgary, Alberta, Canada (YYC) 293 miles. The Lodge at Whitefish Lake provides transportation for guests traveling via Whitefish Amtrak depot and the Glacier Park International Airport. Please schedule with the hotel directly at least 24-hours in advance for timely service. The Lodge has an underground parking garage, Tesla charging station, alternative electric car charging station, and on-site parking for guests. Oversized vehicle and trailer parking can be accommodated only with advance request.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is designed for physicians, certified registered nurse anesthetists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and other medical care providers who must maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of the anesthesia specialty or are impacted by it.

PROGRAM PURPOSE

This continuing education program is designed for anesthesia providers and other healthcare providers seeking to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge in the field. The program aims to provide attendees with the latest updates, innovations, and practical techniques to advance their anesthesia practice. Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and discussion with faculty/peers, participants will gain valuable insights and skills to help in the provision of safe, effective anesthesia care.

OBJECTIVES

Improve knowledge, competence, and utilization of the most recent evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.

Bolster competence in the management of patients with complex comorbidities and less common medical conditions, thereby improving patient outcomes and safety.

Improve skills/strategies in the use of newer equipment/technologies and improve performance within multidisciplinary protocols in order to optimize patient outcomes.

Increase knowledge of newer pharmacologic agents, thereby improving competence in medication management via anticipation of potential polypharmacy interactions.

Improve knowledge and competence in the timely recognition and management of complications during the perioperative period. By enhancing competence, patient outcomes improve by reducing complications.

Enhance recognition and coping strategies to mitigate the effects of workplace stressors and burnout and achieve well-being in the clinical setting.

Improve knowledge and competence in the provision of anesthesia care outside of the operating room.

Factors beyond our control sometimes necessitate changes in the schedule and faculty. If time permits, we will inform all registrants of any changes prior to the program. Changes on site due to local conditions will be announced in class.

COURSE CANCELLATION BY PROVIDER

We reserve the right to cancel a course for any reason. In such case, a minimum of days notice will be given to those registered and 100% of tuition paid will be refunded. NWAS/NWS and NWWT will not be responsible for any non-refundable airfare, hotel, or other liabilities you may incur. We highly recommend purchase of travel insurance. Travel at your own risk.

COURSE CANCELLATION POLICY

No penalty if canceled by December 20, 2023. Cancellations between December 21, 2023, and January 20, 2024, incur a $100 fee. Cancellations after January 20, 2024, are not eligible for a refund. However, 50% of the tuition paid can be applied toward tuition for another NWS/NWAS program within the next 12 months. Cancellation must be made in writing. No tuition credit or refund will be issued for attendees that are no-shows for the program.
