10 DAY TREASURES OF RUSSIA & SCANDINAVIA CRUISE
Imagine traveling through Europe's grand palaces...centuries-old castles...country after country...and unpacking only once. This is a leisurely, luxurious style of travel that's European, heart and soul, and nobody does it better than Holland America. Visit the cities where Vikings planned their explorations to the New World, tour the palaces where czars idled through their summers, explore the maritime ports where life was linked to the wealth of the sea. You'll see countries once long darkened by the Iron Curtain now eager to share their past and voice their hopes for the future. Delve into history and culture. Spend time looking at treasures, not hotels, travel effortlessly at night while being fed and entertained on a grand scale. This is what exploring with Northwest Seminars and Holland America is all about! What an itinerary of exciting ports we have selected for you to visit on this magnificent 10 day journey through the ages.

Copenhagen, Denmark Denmark's capital is sophisticated, saucy and friendly. Stroll the fairytale world of Tivoli Gardens to take in bright lights, castles that out-Disney Disney. See the city's 200- year-old Royal Palace, the lively Old Harbor - Hans Christian Andersen lived here. Salute the Little Mermaid, symbol of this light-hearted city. Plan your trip to arrive early to enjoy this lovely city. Here you will board the fabulous ms Amsterdam, flagship of the Holland America fleet, for 10 days of pampering, where soft chandeliers illuminate the gourmet restaurants and a sttring quartet tunes up on deck. Dozens stand ready to fulfill your command. What will it be? A Swedish massage, Russian caviar, French Cote du Rhone, Italian cuisine. Relax in your stateroom (the cabins are more spacious than other cruise lines). Take in the sights of the Baltic from the privacy of your very own balcony as you sail to the following exotic ports:

Tallinn, Estonia This ancient port city has had many a conqueror and a lot of history. The Hanseatic years shaped the face of Tallinn more than any other period. Walking down the cobblestone streets of Old Town, you may feel that you've traveled back in time, rather than across the Baltic Sea. Medieval walls and towers still stand tall in Old Town. Stroll and shop along cobblestone streets, walk up to the Baroque palace, drop in at Alexander Nevsky Cathedral to find inspiration in the gleaming mosaics and icons. Shore Excursions: Highlights of Tallinn; Tallinn & Manor Houses; Tallinn's Old Town (One of the finest medieval old towns in all of northern Europe is right here in Tallinn).

St. Petersburg Two days to visit the glories of St. Petersburg. The city that Peter the Great laid out on his drawing board is still dramatically evident at every turn. Cathedrals, palaces and parks line long avenues; bridges connect a series of islands. You can't be here without visiting the Hermitage museum, the largest art museum in Russia and ranks among the most prestigious and fabulous museums in the world. Its collection of Western European art is second to none, featuring Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian and others. Also, there is a stunning collection of French art--the largest outside France--displaying works by Degas, Renoir, Monet, Cezanne, Gauguin, and Matisse. Catherine's Palace at Pushkin, which ranks as one of the masterpieces of world art. Shore Excursions: Boat Ride on the Neva River; Catherine's Palace at Pushkin & Pavlovsk; Evening Folkloric Spectacular; Gala Evening at Yusupov Palace; Glories of St. Petersburg; Imperial St. Petersburg; Peterhof (Petrodvorets); Russian Vodka Museum & Metro Ride; Special Hermitage Museum Tour: "The Golden Room"; St. Petersburg Panoramic Drive; The Hermitage Museum at the Winter Palace.

Helsinki, Finland Shaped by its bays and isles, it's one of Europe's most scenic capitals. Hear a Sibelius concert, tour across the Arctic Circle to Lapland, land of Santa Claus, reindeer and the Midnight Sun. Buy a birchbark basket. Shore Excursions: An Afternoon Visiting Porvoo & Savijarvi Farm; An Afternoon with Sibelius; Art & Architecture of Finland; Helsinki Boat Tour; Helsinki City Highlights; Porvoo & Savijarvi Farm; Helsinki City Tour; Lapland; Arctic Circle & Santa Claus Tour; Porvoo & Highlights of Helsinki.

Stockholm, Sweden Nature and city planning have combined to make Stockholm one of the most attractive of the world's capitals. Water plays an important part in city life here and no fewer than 50 bridges of every shape and size link Stockholm's 14 islands. So much to see in this charming city, sprawled on 18 islands, often called the "Venice of the North". Cruise the sparkling waterways. Navigate narrow medieval streets. Watch the snappy changing of the guard at the Baroque Royal Palace. Shop for elegant gifts--glassware, stainless steel. Work up an appetite so you can do justice to the lavish smorgasbords. Art and history will be the focus of your tour of Stockholm. Shore Excursions: Old Town & Millesgarden; Panoramic Stockholm; Royal Palace & Old Town; Mariefred & Gripsholm: City Hall & the Vasa Museum; Waterways of Stockholm.

Visby, Sweden "Rome in a nutshell," Visby was thus described by Carl Linnaeus the botanist in 1751, and the description still fits. Impressive historic monuments are the setting in which modern people live modern lives. A sense of the past permeates the present. Commerce and industry are booming, while medieval concert halls ring with the voices of traditional choirs. Christianized in the 12th century, the city is full of old, stone churches, yet its pagan past is visible in ruins that date back thousands of years. History tells of the Viking Age, followed by a flourishing medieval period and the growth of the powerful Hanseatic League. Today, however, Visby is best known as the Town of Roses and Ruins, and is one of Sweden's most popular vacation resorts In this delightful island town, stroll wide sandy beaches and cobbled streets lined with fairytale cottages. Walk the medieval city walls. Visit Bronze Age burial sites. Weary? Revive yourself with an icy aquavit. Shore Excursions: Visby--Town of Roses & Ruins; West Coast Tour

Warnemunde / Berlin, Germany In Berlin history awaits: Checkpoint Charlie, Unter den Linden, Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag. Browse lively Kurfurstendamm for delicate hand-painted porcelain, a snack of beer and bratwurst. Shore Excursions: Bad Doberan Cathedral & Molli Steam Train to Heiligendamm; Berlin & Potsdam; Berlin Highlights By Train; Guestrow & the Dukes of Mecklenburg; Schwerin--the Capital of Mecklenburg; Treasures of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern; Wismar & Beer Tasting.

Aarhus, Denmark Step back to the Middle Ages in Old Town with its cobbled streets and faultless renditions of half-timbered houses. Shop for unique Danish handcrafts. Explore the ruggedly beautiful Jutland Peninsula and its heathery hills. Shore Excursions: Arhus City Tour; Historic Walking Tour; Djursland Half-Day; Hans Christian Andersen & Funen Village; Legoland; Silkeborg & the Highland Lakes of Denmark.

Copenhagen, Denmark End of this marvelous cruise. Plan to spend a couple of days exploring this marvelous city.
