7-Day Alaska Greatland Safari

Roundtrip from Anchorage, Alaska
Live with bears for two days, cruise with whales, hike a glacier, explore Homer, and acquaint yourself with Alaskan culture and history - its all included in this exciting trip. You can even choose to add fishing to your activities. This is a perfect way to experience the real Alaska.

Overnight at the luxurious Millennium Alaskan Hotel.
 
Sunday, July 4 - Bear Camp (Group 1)
Pick up in Anchorage for the beautiful ride down the Kenai Peninsula. Orientation and lunch at the main lodge. Depending on group numbers, half of the group (Group 1) will depart to the airport for the spectacular bush plane flight to Bear Camp. The balance of your day is spent viewing bears. Cuisine is flown in daily from the main lodge and prepared by your guides. Overnight in comfortable "Weather Port" tent cabins with twin beds and propane heat. Be sure to bring extra batteries for your camera! Group 2 at the main lodge will be free to enjoy hiking, kayaking, fishing, or floating as scheduled.
 
Monday, July 5 - Bear Camp - Group 1 return to main lodge in afternoon
Wake to the sound of waves lapping at the shoreline, then enjoy a hearty breakfast, and spend more time with the royalty of Alaskan Wildlife - the incredible Brown Bear. After lunch, your return bush flight will bring you back to the main lodge on the Kenai River. Settle in to your riverside cabin with private bath. Hot showers, happy hour, and dinner welcome you back to civilization! Group 2 will depart for Bear Camp today and return to the main lodge on July 6.
 
Tuesday, July 6 - Group 2 returns from Bear Camp
The morning is open for Group 1 to enjoy some hiking, kayaking, or floating as scheduled before Group 2 returns and the meetings start in the afternoon.
 
Wednesday, July 7 - Meeting Day
 
Thursday, July 8 - Kenai Fjords National Park
Today brings a breathtaking cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park! On the way to Seward stop and enjoy a gentle hike to the base of a retreating glacier - then board the comfortable boat and spend the day viewing glaciers, fjords, mountain peaks, and spotting the humpback whales, resident orcas, charming sea otter, and puffin. Overnight at the main lodge.
 
Friday, July 9 - Homer, Alaska
No trip to Alaska is complete without a visit to Homer. En route visit an early Russian Church, view Active Volcanoes, and possibly baby moose with their mothers. Homer and Kachemak Bay is truly unforgettable and you will spend a fun-filled day exploring the art and vibe that is uniquely Homer"the end of the road." Return to the lodge in time for dinner.
 
Saturday, July 10 - Depart for Anchorage, Alaska
Your final day features a great, moderate hike to a raised platform high above a waterfall to view salmon leaping towards their natal spawning grounds. A morning of fishing is also an option. Return to the lodge and depart via float plane for Anchorage. Overnight at the luxurious Millennium Alaskan Hotel.

The main lodge's comfortable luxury is distinctly Alaskan, with excellent dining and full bar. All of the riverfront rooms feature private bath and most have in-room gas fireplace and a view of the river.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is designed for Physicians, CRNAs, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses and other medical care providers who must maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of not only the specialty but also of all additional, related disciplines which may impact it.

PROGRAM PURPOSE:
The practitioner of anesthesiology must possess the scientific background for clinical practice; maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of not only the specialty but also of all additional, related disciplines which may impact it; maintain an up-to-the-minute armamentarium of knowledge and skills for the selection and use of complex equipment, pharmacologic agents and procedures necessary for the provision of quality patient care; manage self and colleagues to function toward common goals in the clinical setting, the clinical and educational institutions, and the community in which the practice resides; serve as an expert in matters involving health care delivery; serve as an informed manager of clinical and educational services provided, including the acquisition and distribution of resources necessary in meeting professional goals; and provide assistance with and support of other service providers, departments, institutions and organizations dependent upon the professional expertise of the practitioner. Presentations are designed to facilitate the physician and nurse specialist and other providers maintaining skills of the same kind to review and update knowledge and abilities in one or more of these areas vital to the practicing professional.

OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
Discuss the pertinent physical and behavioral sciences - to include but not be limited to advanced anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and social sciences - as they impact and are affected by the planning, delivery and monitoring of anesthesia and related services inherent in the anesthesia profession.

Explain the selection, dosing considerations with methods of administration, safe use, and contraindications and precautions of presented pharmacological agents through the understanding of their physico-chemical properties, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, updated uses and more recently developed additional, related, similar drugs.

Outline comprehensive management plans for the group of patients discussed, whether related in age, physical status, cultural background, invasive procedure, anesthetic or analgesic requirements, clinical setting, adverse reactions, and/or goals of care.

Discuss the principles of safety and asepsis in the performance of anesthetic procedures and administrations, equipment use and other applications encountered during the provision of anesthesia and analgesia whether in the surgical unit, the labor and delivery suite, the pain management clinic or other more remote location of anesthetizing services.

Discuss incorporation, into practice, the appropriate recommendations and/or requirements of pertinent external organizations, institutions and professional groups - recognized as serving as the authority for and/or holding the responsibility to compile and approve such tenets - in the provision of anesthesia and related services, whether medical, legal, philosophical, ethical, or health care management standards.

Describe the new techniques in the clinical setting of the participant.

Factors beyond our control sometimes necessitate changes in the schedule and faculty. If time permits, we will inform all registrants of any changes prior to the program. Changes on site due to local conditions will be announced in class. All schedules, tours, hotels, etc subject to change.

FAP: (Frequent Attendee Points)
FAP lets you accumulate points based on dollars spent with NWAS including net cruise, net hotel, and tuition booked through NWAS (but not air). These points can then be redeemed for tuition. A great program to reward you for supporting NWAS!
